Fetal heart rate decelerations
Early : mirror the contraction, caused by head compression, benign, no intervention.. Variable : abrupt, variable in shape and timing, caused by cord compression. Reposition the mother first.. Late : begin after the peak of the contraction and return to baseline after it ends, caused by uteroplacental insufficiency. This is the concerning one.. For late decelerations : left lateral position, stop oxytocin, oxygen by mask, increase IV fluids, notify, prepare for possible cesarean.
