Extrapyramidal effects
Acute dystonia : sustained contraction, torticollis, oculogyric crisis, jaw or tongue spasm. Hours to days after starting. Treat with an anticholinergic. Watch the airway.. Akathisia : inner restlessness, irresistible need to move, usually in the legs. Days to weeks. Often mistaken for anxiety; raising the antipsychotic makes it worse.. Parkinsonism : tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia, shuffling gait. Weeks.. Tardive dyskinesia : involuntary movements of the tongue, face and limbs. Months to years, often irreversible.
