Hypoglycemia — recognition
Autonomic, early: tremor, sweating, palpitations, anxiety, hunger, pallor. Neuroglycopenic, later: confusion, difficulty concentrating, slurred speech, visual changes, unusual behaviour, seizure, coma. Hypoglycemia unawareness: after years of diabetes or on beta blockers, the autonomic signs disappear and confusion is the first sign. Any sudden behaviour change in a person with diabetes is a capillary glucose reading, not an interpretation. At night the signs are nightmares, sweating and morning headache.
