Fetal heart rate decelerations
Early: mirror the contraction, caused by head compression, benign, no intervention. Variable: abrupt, variable in shape and timing, caused by cord compression. Reposition the mother first. Late: begin after the peak of the contraction and return to baseline after it ends, caused by uteroplacental insufficiency. This is the concerning one. For late decelerations: left lateral position, stop oxytocin, oxygen by mask, increase IV fluids, notify, prepare for possible cesarean.
