Seizure — during and after
During: stay with the person, protect the head, clear the surroundings, loosen tight clothing, turn to the side if possible, time the episode, note what you see. Never restrain, never put anything in the mouth. After: maintain the side-lying position, suction if needed, oxygen, check capillary glucose, orient gently, allow rest, and expect a postictal period of confusion and drowsiness. Call for help if the seizure lasts more than 5 minutes, if a second follows without recovery, or if it occurs in pregnancy or in water.
